The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2026 was conducted by Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee on May 17, 2026, for admissions to undergraduate engineering programmes across the IIT system. Revised Exam Pattern and Difficulty Analysis
The examination carried a total of 360 marks across two papers. One of the major changes this year was the reduction in negative marking for multi-correct questions from -2 to -1. However, integer-type questions in Paper 2 included negative marking for incorrect answers.

Based on post-exam analyses and expert assessments published in May 2026, the overall difficulty level was considered moderate to difficult, with Paper 2 viewed as comparatively more demanding.
- Mathematics: Questions from Calculus, Algebra, and Coordinate Geometry were lengthy and required multi-step calculations.
- Physics: Several questions combined concepts from Mechanics, Optics, and Electrostatics, focusing on analytical reasoning rather than direct formula application.
- Chemistry: Chemistry was considered relatively balanced and closely aligned with NCERT-based preparation.
The revised pattern indicated a broader shift towards conceptual understanding and problem-solving ability in engineering entrance examinations.

JoSAA Counselling and Eligibility
The counselling process for IITs, NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, and other participating institutes will be managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority.

The officially prescribed Seat Acceptance Fee is ₹35,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates and ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Candidates must also satisfy the Class 12 eligibility conditions specified in the JoSAA Business Rules, including a minimum of 75% marks for General category candidates and 65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
