The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has opened the Option-cum-Preference submission facility for candidates who appeared in Paper-II of the Junior Engineer (JE) Examination 2025. The exercise forms a mandatory stage of the recruitment process and allows eligible candidates to indicate their preferred departments and posts for final allocation.
According to the SSC notice, “Submission of Option-cum-Preference for Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) Examination, 2025”, candidates are required to submit their preferences within the notified period. The Commission has also introduced a Sliding Framework System, a revised allocation mechanism intended to improve vacancy utilisation and streamline post allocation across participating departments.
The Junior Engineer examination is conducted for recruitment to technical positions in various Central Government organisations. Since departmental allocation is linked to merit and submitted preferences, this stage plays an important role in the overall recruitment process.

Who Needs to Submit the Form?
The Option-cum-Preference form is applicable to candidates who appeared in Paper-II of the SSC JE 2025 examination.
SSC has indicated that candidates who do not complete the preference submission process within the prescribed period may not be considered for subsequent allocation stages. Details regarding the consequences of non-submission are available in the official notice.

Understanding the Sliding Framework
The revised framework has been introduced as part of SSC’s effort to improve vacancy management and reduce the number of unutilised posts across departments.
First Round of Tentative Allocation
Candidates will initially receive a tentative departmental allocation based on merit position and submitted preferences. This stage is known as the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA).
Identity Verification
Candidates shortlisted after tentative allocation will be required to complete Identity Verification (IV) at designated SSC Regional Director offices.
The process may include Aadhaar authentication, biometric verification, and live photograph capture, as described in SSC instructions relating to the Sliding Framework System.

FIX and FLOAT Options
During Identity Verification, candidates will be required to select either FIX or FLOAT.

Candidates opting for FLOAT may be considered for an upgraded allocation if vacancies become available during the sliding process. Applicable conditions are governed by SSC’s official framework instructions.
One-Time Sliding Round
SSC has indicated that a single sliding round will be conducted after verification activities are completed. The process is expected to utilise vacancies arising due to candidate absence, ineligibility, or non-completion of recruitment formalities.
Allocation decisions during this stage will depend on merit ranking, preference order, vacancy availability, and verification status. Following completion of the process, SSC is expected to release the final allocation list and forward candidate dossiers to the respective departments.
Fraud and Safety Advisory
Candidates should use only the official SSC portal for recruitment-related activities.
- Do not share OTPs, passwords, or login credentials.
- Avoid third-party websites claiming guaranteed allocation or selection.
- Government authorities do not seek payments for post allocation, verification, or approval.
