The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has opened registrations for the IndiaSkills Competition 2026–27, the country’s flagship skill competition for vocational and technical talent. Launched by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the competition identifies skilled youth across multiple disciplines and serves as the official selection pathway for India’s contingent at the WorldSkills Competition 2026, scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China, from September 22 to 27, 2026.
According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the WorldSkills India Competition Rules Book 2026–27, the initiative aims to strengthen vocational education, encourage industry-ready skills and align India’s training ecosystem with global standards. The programme also supports the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the National Credit Framework (NCrF), promoting formal recognition of skill-based learning.

How to Register
According to the WorldSkills India Registration User Manual, candidates can complete the application by following these steps:
- Visit the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).
- Complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification.
- Create or verify the applicant profile.
- Select one eligible competition skill.
- Review the application and submit it before the notified deadline.
Only one application is permitted per candidate.
Competition Structure and Timeline
The selection process is conducted through two parallel tracks.
- Track I: Managed by State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs) for skills selected by individual states.
- Track II: Conducted by Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) for skills not hosted by the states.

Gold and Silver medalists from state competitions, together with eligible candidates from Track II, progress to the Regional Skill Competitions. The highest-performing competitors from each region advance to the IndiaSkills National Competition.
Skill Categories and Training
IndiaSkills covers 63 industry-aligned skills across six sectors: Construction & Building Technology, Creative Arts & Fashion, Information & Communication Technology, Manufacturing & Engineering Technology, Social & Personal Services, and Transportation & Logistics.
Among these, 57 are official WorldSkills skills, while six provisional skills remain subject to approval by WorldSkills International. Certain disciplines, including Cyber Security, Mechatronics and Industry 4.0, are conducted as team events.
National medal winners receive advanced mentoring, technical practice, mock competitions and training using WorldSkills-standard equipment to prepare for international participation.

Official information released during the launch of IndiaSkills 2026–27 also states that registrations have increased from around 5,000 participants in 2016 to more than 3.5 lakh in the 2025–26 cycle, reflecting growing participation in vocational skill competitions.
Fraud and Safety Advisory
Applicants should use only the official Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for registration. Avoid unofficial websites, social media advertisements or individuals claiming guaranteed selection. Never share Aadhaar credentials, OTPs or passwords with unknown persons. Government authorities do not seek payments through private agents for approval or selection. Any suspicious communication should be verified through the official MSDE or NSDC channels.
